De forma a incentivar a criação, a interpretação e a divulgação de novas obras musicais, o Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble promove, em parceria com a Fundação da Casa de Mateus e a blablaLab Associação Cultural, a 2a edição do “CONCURSO DE COMPOSIÇÃO DE LIED ALVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA - CASA DE MATEUS - SOND'AR-TE”.

O concurso está aberto a compositoras e compositores de qualquer nacionalidade. Cada concorrente pode submeter até 2 composições, desde que para uma combinação de voz & instrumento distinta. Os trabalhos submetidos não devem ter sido nem estreados, nem publicados comercialmente, nem premiados em qualquer concurso nacional ou internacional. A duração da composição deve ter entre os 7 e os 15 minutos. A partitura deve ser escrita em software de notação musical e entregue em pdf. A candidatura com o conjunto completo de materiais (ver abaixo) deve ser submetida até às 24h do dia 2025-12-31 para o seguinte email: sondarte@sondarte.com

TEXTO(S)

Um comité composto por representantes das três entidades parceiras: Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble, Fundação da Casa de Mateus e a blablaLab Associação Cultural, propõe, a cada dois anos, uma escolha de autores e/ou textos a partir dos quais poderá ser escrita a composição.Em 2025 a escolha de textos incide na obra de ALVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA.

INSTRUMENTAÇÂO

As composições submetidas devem ser escritas para um duo, numa combinação obrigatória de 1 voz e 1 instrumento, combinação escolhida entre soprano e os 5 instrumentos da lista a seguir, com ou sem eletrónica (fixa sobre suporte ou eletrónica ao vivo).Favorece-se a utilização dos outros instrumentos indicados que não o piano: Soprano + Flauta (também pode dobrar em piccolo ou flauta alto) ou Clarinete em Bb (também pode dobrar em A, Eb, ou clarinete baixo) ou Violino ou Violoncelo ou Piano (também pode dobrar teclados/sintetizadores); A componente electrónica da composição submetida, fixa sobre suporte ou eletrónica ao vivo, pode usar no máximo um sistema de alto-falantes de quatro canais; o uso das seguintes DAWs: Digital Performer, Reaper, Ableton Live; o uso dos aplicativos interativos Max/MSP – todos operáveis em Mac OS. Qualquer software e/ou plug-in adicional deve poder ser executado em Mac OS; deve ser freeware e deve ser fornecido pelo concorrente.

CANDIDATURA

Todas as candidaturas ao concurso devem incluir os seguintes materiais e informações: A partitura (em formato .pdf); a parte eletrónica em pasta compactada e enviada para o mesmo e-mail acima por WeTransfer ou sistema de transferência de arquivos similar (material pré-gravado e/ou versão final de patches de processamento ao vivo, prontos para execução e incluindo todas as instruções necessárias para configuração e atuação); Descrição / notas de programa do trabalho submetido (até 500 palavras); Ano de composição; Uma estimativa precisa da duração do trabalho. Uma breve biografia (até 500 palavras); Uma foto recente (de preferência em jpeg); Endereço postal, e-mail, site; Cópia de documento de identificação; Toda a informação/documentação necessária relevante para consideração do Júri.

SELECÇÃO & PRÉMIO

Serão seleccionadas pelo júri até 3 obras que serão interpretadas em concerto.Os resultados da selecção das 3 obras finalistas serão anunciados até ao dia 31 de Março de 2026 em www.sondarte.com.A(s) / O(s) compositor(es/as) das obras seleccionadas serão contactados por email.As obras seleccionadas serão executadas pelos solistas do Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble em 2026, na FUNDAÇÃO CASA DE MATEUS, em data a anunciar.Os compositores das obras selecionadas serão convidados para os ensaios e concerto.De entre as obras selecionadas e executadas, o júri escolherá e anunciará a obra vencedora no final do concerto.O compositor vencedor receberá um prémio de 2.500 €.

A obra premiada, bem como as outras obras selecionadas e apresentadas em concerto, poderão integrar a edição de um CD do Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble.

DIREITOS CEDIDOS AO SOND’AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE

a) O direito de estreia da obra, sem pagamento de direitos de autor adicionais pela sua estreia;

b) O direito permanente de execução da obra;

c) O Direito de gravação integral da obra para fins de edição, distribuição e promoção, em qualquer formato.

d) Exclusividade na gravação da obra e sua difusão no decorrer dos 2 anos que seguem à estreia da obra, salvo mediante circunstâncias particulares de interpretação solicitadas pelo AUTOR e ACEITES por escrito pela SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE.

e) Exclusividade na interpretação da obra no decorrer dos 2 anos que seguem a estreia da obra, salvo mediante circunstâncias particulares de interpretação solicitadas pelo AUTOR e ACEITES por escrito pelo SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE.

f) Exclusividade na primeira edição discográfica da obra e sua distribuição, em qualquer formato ou suporte (físico ou digital) pela Miso Records no decorrer dos 2 anos que seguem à estreia da obra.

g) Os direitos de edição e distribuição da gravação da obra interpretada pelo SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE são permanentes.

DISPOSIÇÕES FINAIS

A decisão do júri é final. O júri reserva-se o direito de não atribuição de nenhum prémio.A atribuição do valor do prémio obriga a emissão de um recibo correspondente.O Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble reserva-se o direito de alterar as regras se as circunstâncias o exigirem. A participação no Concurso implica o pleno conhecimento e aceitação do presente regulamento.

SOND’AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE [PT]

O Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble é um grupo de música contemporânea inovador no panorama da nova música europeia. A sua estrutura central é a combinação permanente de 5 a 7 instrumentos acústicos (flauta, clarinete, violino, violoncelo, piano + viola + percussão + voz) com a eletrónica, apoiando-se na experiência técnica do Miso Studio.

O repertório do Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble abrange algumas das mais importantes obras para ensemble até 5 e 8 instrumentos dos séculos XX e XXI. Uma das características fundamentais deste projeto é a encomenda de novas obras, incentivando assim o desenvolvimento forte e vibrante da música de câmara contemporânea com eletrónica, com especial atenção para a criação portuguesa.

O Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble, composto por uma jovem geração de músicos excepcionais com carreiras individuais como solistas, tem vindo a ganhar, desde a sua estreia em setembro de 2007, um nível artístico notável e é já uma referência em Portugal e no estrangeiro. Para além da sua circulação em concertos por Portugal, Paris, Festival de outono de Varsóvia, Museu Guggenheim de Bilbao, Festival da Cidade de Londres, Seul, Tóquio e Berlim, o Sond'Ar-te está fortemente envolvido em projectos de teatro musical mediático, no desenvolvimento de actividades educativas como o Fórum de Jovens Compositores e na formação de novos públicos através da apresentação de programas especiais para crianças.

FUNDAÇÃO DA CASA DE MATEUS [PT]

A Fundação da Casa de Mateus foi instituída em 1970 por D. Francisco de Sousa Botelho de Albuquerque. É uma instituição privada com missões de serviço público nas áreas patrimonial, cultural, artística, educativa e de divulgação científica com uma implantação singular num território de baixa densidade. No centro da sua ação, encontramos o cruzamento entre património histórico, património natural, artes e inovação, reforçando a perceção do valor dos instrumentos culturais e da ação local para a superação das grandes questões globais; ou a confluência entre ação cultural, paisagem e território, numa perspetiva de sustentabilidade, envolvendo as pessoas e as comunidades no raciocínio emergente sobre novas formas de relação com os recursos naturais.

No biénio 2023/2024, a Fundação da Casa de Mateus propõe um programa multidisciplinar que parte das artes visuais, da música, da literatura ou da dança e se entretece nos infinitos cruzamentos entre cultura, criação artística, projeto educativo e divulgação científica. Contando com o apoio do Ministério da Cultura, através da Direção-Geral das Artes, e do Município de Vila Real e persistindo na colaboração com um conjunto importante de parceiros institucionais e artísticos, a Fundação da Casa de Mateus convoca para o território artistas e criadores de múltiplas proveniências para desenvolver estratégias de transmissão de práticas artísticas e formas de fruição que detêm um potencial de transformação importante e, sobretudo, convida os cidadãos a tomar as suas paisagens como lugar de diálogo permanente entre a memória e a criação do novo.

A blablaLab Associação Cultural é um laboratório de línguas e linguagens que trabalha sobre a obra, a inspiração e as metodologias propostas por Alvaro García de Zúñiga e Teresa Albuquerque desde 1996. Centrado sobretudo nos cruzamentos entre música e teatro, performance art e poesia concreta, sempre com ligações às artes visuais, o trabalho da blablaLab navega entre diferentes suportes, da cena à edição ou aos palcos radiofónicos, do livro-fonte Manuel à sua concretização no dispositivo ‘Manuel Sur Scène’, forma infinitamente aberta que privilegia o encontro de linguagens artísticas e a provocação mútua entre as línguas.

2nd INTERNATIONAL LIED COMPOSITION COMPETITION ÁLVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA – CASA DE MATEUS – SOND’AR-TE

In order to encourage the creation, performance, and dissemination of new musical works, the Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble, in partnership with the Casa de Mateus Foundation and the blablaLab Cultural Association, is promoting the 2nd edition of the “LIED COMPOSITION COMPETITION ÁLVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA – CASA DE MATEUS – SOND’AR-TE.”

COMPETITION RULES

DEADLINE: 2025-12-31
JURY: members of the international jury to be announced

The competition is open to composers of any nationality.

Each applicant may submit up to two compositions, provided that each is for a different voice & instrument combination.

Submitted works must not have been premiered, commercially published, or awarded in any national or international competition.

The duration of the composition must be between 7 and 15 minutes.

The score must be written using music notation software and submitted in PDF format.

Applications including the complete set of materials (see below) must be submitted by 24:00 on 2025-12-31 to the following email address: sondarte@sondarte.com

TEXT(S)

A committee made up of representatives of the three partner organisations—Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble, the Casa de Mateus Foundation, and the blablaLab Cultural Association—proposes, every two years, a selection of authors and/or texts on which the composition may be based. In 2025, the selection of texts focuses on the work of ÁLVARO GARCÍA DE ZÚÑIGA.

INSTRUMENTATION

Submitted compositions must be written for a duo, in a mandatory combination of 1 voice and 1 instrument, chosen between soprano and one of the five instruments listed below, with or without electronics (fixed media or live electronics). The use of the instruments indicated other than the piano is encouraged:

Piano (may also double keyboards/synthesizers)

The electronic component of the submitted composition—fixed media or live electronics—may use at most a four-channel loudspeaker system; and may use the following DAWs: Digital Performer, Reaper, Ableton Live; and interactive applications Max/MSP—all operable on Mac OS. Any additional software and/or plug-in must run on Mac OS, must be freeware, and must be provided by the applicant.

APPLICATION

All competition applications must include the following materials and information:

The score (in .pdf format); the electronic part in a compressed folder and sent to the same email address above via WeTransfer or a similar file-transfer system (pre-recorded material and/or final version of live-processing patches, ready for performance and including all necessary setup and performance instructions);
Description / programme notes for the submitted work (up to 500 words);
Year of composition;
A precise estimate of the work’s duration;
A short biography (up to 500 words);
A recent photo (preferably JPEG);
Postal address, email, website;
Copy of an identification document;
Any other relevant information/documentation necessary for the Jury’s consideration.

SELECTION & PRIZE

Up to three works will be selected by the jury and performed in concert. The results of the selection of the three finalist works will be announced by 31 March 2026 at www.sondarte.com. The composer(s) of the selected works will be contacted by email.

The selected works will be performed by the soloists of the Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble in 2026, at the CASA DE MATEUS FOUNDATION, on a date to be announced. The composers of the selected works will be invited to attend the rehearsals and the concert.

From among the selected and performed works, the jury will choose and announce the winning work at the end of the concert. The winning composer will receive a prize of €2,500.

The prize-winning work, as well as the other works selected and performed in concert, may be included in the release of a Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble CD.

RIGHTS GRANTED TO THE SOND’AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE

a) The right to premiere the work, without payment of additional author’s rights for its premiere;
b) The perpetual right to perform the work;
c) The right to make a complete recording of the work for the purposes of publication, distribution, and promotion, in any format;
d) Exclusive rights to record the work and disseminate it during the two years following the premiere, except under particular performance circumstances requested by the AUTHOR and ACCEPTED in writing by the SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE;
e) Exclusive rights to perform the work during the two years following the premiere, except under particular performance circumstances requested by the AUTHOR and ACCEPTED in writing by the SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE;
f) Exclusive rights for the first discographic release of the work and its distribution, in any format or medium (physical or digital), by Miso Records during the two years following the premiere;
g) The publishing and distribution rights for the recording of the work performed by the SOND'AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE are perpetual.

FINAL PROVISIONS

The jury’s decision is final. The jury reserves the right not to award any prize. Payment of the prize amount requires issuance of a corresponding receipt.

The Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble reserves the right to change the rules if circumstances require it. Participation in the Competition implies full knowledge and acceptance of these regulations.

SOND’AR-TE ELECTRIC ENSEMBLE [ENG]

The Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble is an innovative contemporary music ensemble in the European new music scene. Its core structure is the permanent combination of 5 to 7 acoustic instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano + viola + percussion + voice) with electronics relying on the Miso Studio’s technical expertise.

The Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble’s repertoire covers some of the most important works for ensemble up to 5 and 8 instruments of the 20th and 21st centuries. One of the key features of this project is the commission of new works, hence encouraging the strong and vibrant development of contemporary chamber music with electronics, with a special attention given to Portuguese creation.

The Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble composed by a young generation pool of exceptional musicians with individual careers as soloists, has gained since his premiere in September 2007 an outstanding artistic level and is already a reference in Portugal and abroad. In addition to its concert circulation around Portugal, Paris, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, City of London Festival, Seoul, Tokyo and Berlin, the Sond’Ar-te is strongly involved in media music theatre projects, in the development of educational activities such as the Forum for Young Composers and nurturing new audiences by presenting special programmes for children.

FUNDAÇÃO DA CASA DE MATEUS [ENG]

The Casa de Mateus Foundation was set up in 1970 by D. Francisco de Sousa Botelho de Albuquerque. It is a private institution with public service missions in the areas of heritage, culture, art, education and scientific dissemination with a unique location in a low-density territory. At the centre of its action, we find the intersection between historical heritage, natural heritage, arts and innovation, reinforcing the perception of the value of cultural instruments and local action to overcome major global issues; or the confluence between cultural action, landscape and territory, from a sustainability perspective, involving people and communities in the emerging thinking about new forms of relationship with natural resources.

For the 2023/2024 biennium, the Casa de Mateus Foundation is proposing a multidisciplinary programme that starts with the visual arts, music, literature and dance and weaves through the infinite intersections between culture, artistic creation, educational projects and scientific dissemination.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, through the Directorate-General for the Arts, and the Municipality of Vila Real, and persisting in its collaboration with an important group of institutional and artistic partners, the Casa de Mateus Foundation is calling on artists and creators from multiple backgrounds to develop strategies for transmitting artistic practices and forms of enjoyment that have a significant potential for transformation and, above all, invites citizens to take their landscapes as a place for permanent dialogue between memory and the creation of the new.

blablaLab Associação Cultural is a multidisciplinary language laboratory that fields on the work, inspiration and methodologies proposed by Alvaro García de Zúñiga and Teresa Albuquerque since 1996. Focused mainly on the intersections between music and theatre, performance art and concrete poetry, always with links to the visual arts, blablaLab's work navigates between different media, from the scene to publishing or radio stages, from the Manuel source-book to its realization in the 'Manuel Sur Scène', an infinitely open form that privileges the meeting of artistic languages and the mutual provocation between languages.
